Teresa sowed the seed of Missionaries of Charity foundation in 1950 and under its umbrella served the helpless till her last breath across the world.
Releasing the stamp, Potter said "Often, stamps are referred to as a nation's 'calling cards' because they reach a national, and even an international audience. They focus attention on subjects our country regards with respect and affection, and that is certainly true of Mother Teresa, who believed so deeply in the innate worth and dignity of humankind and worked tirelessly on behalf of the poor, sick, orphaned and dying”. Mother Teresa was born in Albania on August 26, 1910 and was given Indian citizenship in 1948. In 1979 her humanitarian work fetched her world’s highest award, Noble Peace Award. Indian government honoured her with Bharat Ratna, nation’s highest civilian award in 1980. Mother Teresa owing to her services was also known as Saint of Gutters.
