US labels Hizbul Mujahideen a terrorist organisation, strengthens India's case
The State Department of the United States of America has declared Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) as a foreign terrorist organisation. HM is a terrorist organisation active mostly in Pakistan.

As per the latest declaration, no US citizen or resident is allowed to deal with the organisation, and also, the US now has the authority to freeze assets that belong to the organisation under the jurisdiction of the Unites States.

Declaring HM as a terrorist organisation will also mean that the organisation is going to face financial sanctions, thus cutting out the financial resources that the HM uses to carry out terrorist activities.

"These designations seek to deny Hizbul Mujahideen the resources it needs to carry out terrorist attacks," a statement by the US State Department read.

The declaration puts HM in the same list in which organisations such as al-Qaida, Islamic State, Boko Haram, etc are placed.

This move strengthens India's efforts to counter the terrorism originating from its neighbouring country, Pakistan. The timing is even more important for India given the fact that HM has in recent past gained some strength in Kashmir Valley especially after the killing of its much famous commander, Burhan Wani.

This announcement by the United States also signals strengthening of ties between the US and India especially at a time when India is engaged in a charged up situation with the other neighbouring country, China in Doklam region.

With US declaring HM as a terrorist organisation, India has a strong chance in the United Nations Security Council of getting the UNSC to declare HM as a global terror outfit.
