THE SECOND round of the US Open Golf Championship 2010 begins at Pebble Beach. Ace golfer Tiger Woods could not manage a single in the opening round of 74 on Thursday. It was the first time in seven years that he failed to make even one birdie in a round at any major.

It was both Woods and Phil Mickelson who made zero birdies at the framed golf course. Woods and Lee Westwood both shot 74, one lower than Mickelson. Woods finished three over and Mickelson finished four over par. On the other hand, Paul Casey took a share of one shot lead into the second round of the US open.

Brendon de Jonge of Zimbabwe, playing the back nine first, drained two long putts to make successive birdie at the 12th and 13th holes and became the leader at four-under. America’s Shaun Micheel birdied the 11th to get to three-under, but remained two-under. Casey became a leader overnight and made a steady start to his second round before dropping off the leaderboard with a triple-bogey eight at the 14th hole.
