US students are using Twitter lessons in school classes
Teachers in the US have been trying to incorporate Twitter lessons in their curriculum. Enrique Legaspi, a teacher by profession for 8 years, was influenced by this idea when he attended a conference in San Francisco.
MOST OF the 8th and 9th grade students in India and other countries may not be allowed to use their mobile phones during the class hours, but teachers across the US have been trying to incorporate Twitter lessons in their curriculum.
It was at a conference at San Francisco that was attended by Enrique Legaspi, a teacher by profession for 8 years where he was fascinated by the way Twitter could be used inside classrooms.
A survey that had been conducted of 1920 teachers of the US, did not show good results about the use of social networking internet platforms for education, but Enrique Legaspi is still positive about it. According to the survey, “2 per cent of them use the micro-blogging site in college lectures. About half of those polled said the use of Twitter and Facebook in class is harmful to the learning experience, according to the study from consulting firm Pearson Learning Solutions,” reported
Enrique Legaspi also learnt from his experience that there are a selected group of students in a class that would be responsive but the use of Twitter in classrooms would lead to an increase in the students participation.
The use of Twitter can be very helpful for both the students and teachers. The teachers can send links, opinions and various other things that they would want to communicate to the students. The students would be directly involved through Twitter, which also allows them an opportunity for feedback.
Twitter had been first initiated in 2006, and has been gaining popularity every day. There are more than 200 million registered users with Twitter as of today. As it is becoming increasingly popular, teachers in the US are inclined towards using Twitter in classrooms, which would also make learning a fun process.
