THE OBAMA administration launched its offensive against Pakistan by cutting a third of the annual aid to the country. The relationship between the two countries hit an all time low, when Osama Bin Laden was found hiding in the garrison town on Abbottabad. The US government had promised $2 billion as annual aid to the Pakistani military, per annum.
The news was confirmed on Sunday by William Daley, who is serving as the Chief of Staff in the Obama administration. Daley buttressed that the Obama administration will withhold $800 million of the $2 billion aid.
The morally knocked down Pakistani authorities in recent past too were seen pulling back on their cooperation with the United States. The suspension of funding was first reported in one of America’s leading newspapers, New York Times. On television, Daley confirmed the move while speaking at a popular TV programme. He said that the Pakistanis have taken some steps that have given us reason to pause on some of the aid which we were giving to their military.
Daley also defended the United States’ action of not informing the Pakistani authorities and violating their airspace, and launching a direct assault at the dreaded al-Qaeda terrorist. He asserted that the Obama administration does not regret the actions.
