US to move its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem: What does this mean for the Middle East?
In a move that could change the dynamics of world politics especially in the Middle East, United States of America has decided to move its Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

The decision will be executed in May this year. At present, the embassy is located in Israel's capital Tel Aviv.

As per reports, the embassy will operate from an existing US building till it gets its own building ready. As of now, the embassy will host the ambassador and his staff.

American President Donald Trump had in December this year, announced that the US is recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Given that the move comes in a year which marks the 70th anniversary of Israel, the Prime Minister of the country Benjamin Netanyahu appreciated the move and said that the move would "turn Israel's 70th Independence Day into an even greater national celebration."

The independence day of Israel falls on 14th of May. The move has faced criticism from Palestine, which called it a move that will destroy the two state solution.

Israel Katz, the minister of transportation and intelligence wrote on Twitter, "I would like to congratulate Donald Trump, the President of the US @POTUS on his decision to transfer the US Embassy to our capital on Israel's 70th Independence Day. There is no greater gift than that! The most just and correct move. Thanks friend!"

Reports have also suggested that hardliner Jewish supporter Sheldon G Adelson has offered to help in funding the construction of the embassy. Adelson, a Trump supporter, has been a prominent voice in relations between the America and Israel. As per a report in the New York Times, the cost of the embassy could be around $500 million.

Moving the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was one of the prominent promises made by Donald Trump during his election campaign.
