On Wednesday, a US pharmaceutical company has launched a vaginal ring to control birth, thus making the contraceptive procedure for woman much easier. The company claims that newly introduced vaginal ring has no side effects.
Organon, a pharmaceutical company in the US launched the vaginal ring in India on Wednesday, November 18. Launced by the company, nuvaring is flexible, transparent ring made of inert plastic. The ring contains hormones that would enter the bloodstream directly, thus inhibiting ovulation.
Urvashi Jain, director of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Max Healthcare said that Nuvaring makes the contraception procedure quite simpler for women. The vaginal ring just needs to be inserted every week unlike taking a contraceptive pill every day. Every month for a continued contraceptive effect, the ring needs to be inserted for three weeks followed by one week ring free interval. This procedure needs to be repeated every month.
Mr. K.G. Ananthakrishnan, managing director of Organon (India) saod that around 20 percent of women use contraceptive in India. He added that the ring will be good as it does not have any side effects and does not cause any obsruction in the daily activity.
