The occasion of Valentine's is special and exclusive, make it unique and different from the rest by taking that extra step of care and love.

A SCARLET rose, a heart shaped carton of marshmallow chocolates and a huggable teddy bear mustering a squeaky ‘I love you’ out of its withered alkaline batteries – sounds like a clichéd gift for Valentine's?

Shift focus to a bunch of orange tulips or sunshine yellow daffodils, replace the marshmallows (she can buy them herself on any other day of the year) with an appetizing dinner and chuck the toy – bestow her the deserved respect with either jewelry (which does not mean picking cheap trinkets) that she can proudly flaunt or a cell phone which clicks not less than 8 mega pixel images.

Let’s accept it – flowers are synonymous with this event – every woman, single or committed, expects at least one flower of any kind on the fourteenth day of February. Making your lady feel a bit more special by wooing her with exotic flowers may cost you a few extra bucks, but isn’t it worth the smile to die for’on her face? Of course, for others who wish to keep it sober on their pockets, can at least drop the conventional red and opt for vivid pinks or even chirpy yellows. The blooming buds are Valentine essentials and must accompany any gift whatsoever.

The unique tradition of celebrating love, set by the Romans, includes all and sundry, however the contemporary focus is upon first time lovers, the newly married duo and the regular couple. The day acts as a liberal announcement of their union – by exchanging mutually shared feelings and of course gifts wrapped in unconditional love. On Valentines, the streets, the restaurants and the shopping malls and practically the whole city swarms with people. It will be sensible to book a place at a restaurant ahead of time lest you are left to spend the evening queuing up outside restaurants. The idea is to ‘talk’, which is probably over a lunch or dinner. It not only makes for a romantic time of togetherness but also pleases your taste buds with the alluring food.

Give your squirrel instincts a rest when it comes to picking a decent gift for her. Buy a gift that is worth the day and don’t splurge unthinkably on anything and everything. Respectable gifts for her may include watches, gold plated jewelry, or a cell phone in vogue. And you may easily ignore the hues of pink while browsing watches and phones; the color doesn’t flatter everyone, so stay away from it.
