Russians Oskana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin had created a lot of controversy when the ice dance pair were seen in Aboriginal themed costumes. Many had asked that their aboriginal themed dance number be changed.
AFTER THEY kicked up a lot of furore, world ice dance champions Oskana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin do not appear to have changed their costumes for the ice dance event that will be held later in the afternoon.
The two had outraged many when they were seen in Aboriginal themed costumes and while many asked that their aboriginal themed dance number be changed, they showed up in similar costumes for the Sunday morning practice.
Russians Oskana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin were seen in flesh coloured bodysuits instead of the original brown ones and the white markings on these have been toned down as compared to earlier. However, Maxim Shabalin was still seen wearing a loin cloth over the costume, which for both him and Oskana Domnina are still covered in white ropes and leaves.
Some Australian Aboriginal leaders were outraged at their Aboriginal themed costumes and had criticised their ice dance performance, saying that their steps were not authentic, the costumes were gaudy and it was blatant cultral theft. They had also asked that the costumes should be changed.
Some are suggesting that the ice dance pair may change into different costumes for the ice dance performance this afternoon.

I can understand the outrage when a showcase to the world is a tasteless representation of the culture it is demonstrating, thus perpetuating, if not further spreading, ignorance and lack of respect. There is a responsibility on the part of performers who choose a cultural tack for their own advancement to at least pay homage and do justice to the culture they are "using". I'm proud of my heritage. If my culture was represented poorly, particularly by foreigners, I'd be p.o.'d too. It may have been a demonstration of ignorance on their part, but they'd be angry if another "pair" made farcical certain elements of their culture that THEY hold dear. It's about respect... treat others as you'd want to be treated... do your homework!
Give me a break. It is outrageous to have such an attitude. You cannot do anything in this world...Let the people wear what they want.
It was a bit like something you would expect from Fred and Wilma - too much caveman for me.
I didnt see it as Australian Aboriginal more like a generic tribal theme out of africa, just cos there was didgerirdoo in the music everyone is up in arms...Lighten up peeps it was a crap routine anyhoo
pathetic overeaction. Focus on real problems. Its all about intent. It was intended to showcase a group of people and had no other purpose. Keep it up liberal minds large groups of people are so so so so tired of the whining
They were not that bad....in fact I think it shows repsect. peopletehd to over react.
