On Friday, before Rajnath Singh could convene a meeting of the central parliamentary board, so as to take a decision on this issue, Raje met LK Advani and expressing her decision to quit the post, she handed in her three page resignation letter.
THE DRAMA that has lasted more than three months, finally ended on Friday, October 24, when former Rajasthan Chief minister and the head of opposition in the state, Vasundhara Raje finally quit her position in the legislature.
The party supremo, Rajnath Singh, has been remarking for a long time, about initiating disciplinary action against those party members, who have stepped out of the party line and pointing at Raje, the latter has been defiant in seeking an explanation for the same. The issue had even become a matter of prestige for the BJP President. On Friday afternoon, before Rajnath Singh could convene a meeting of the central parliamentary board, so as to take a decision on this issue, Raje met LK Advani and expressing her decision to quit the post, she handed in her three page resignation letter.
Later, the board accepted her resignation, even when Advani allegedly urged them to reconsider on their decision, a plea that was reportedly overruled by Rajnath Singh. However, the former minister did not leave quietly. In the letter submitted by her, she complained of many Rajasthan leaders who had refused to support her, during her stint as the Chief minister. She then raised issues, regarding the BJP President himself, allegedly talking about how the party had demanded her resignation quickly, after its lacklustre performance in the Lok Sabha elections, but not sought to fix the problems that led to such a scenario.Saddened at how the party kept her out of the loop, ensuring that she learnt about the demand to resign from the media, Raje wrote that the way the situation had unfolded, it wasn't she who had broken the organisational discipline. The question that has many puzzled now is, who would replace Raje? While the anti-Raje camp has reportedly been recommending senior MLA Gulabchand Kataria, the name of Kiran Maheshwari and Rao Rajendra Singh have also been raised. Vasundhra Raje herself seems to be supporting Rajendra Rathore and Digambar Singh, as her successors. The party has reportedly called a meeting of its MLAs in the state legislature, so that they may elect their chosen leader for the post, instead of the national leaders choosing a likely candidate themselves. . This meeting might be held before November 23, when the state would go for elections again, for its local bodies.
The incident places increasing evidence on the theory that the BJP President might be more interested in following a biased, partisan agenda, instead of dealing with the party properly. This process of settling personal scores and dispensing rivals from the party, might lead the right wing BJP into murkier waters, further away from success.
