Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor passes away at 79
Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor passed away on Monday at the age 79. He was admitted at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. The actor had not been keeping well for some time. The news was confirmed by the hospital's CEO. The actor breathed his last breath at 5:20 pm.

As reported by PTI, his nephew Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news and said, "Yes he has passed away. He had kidney problem since several years. He was on dialysis for several years."

As sources reveal, Kapoor was undergoing treatment at the hospital for chest infection. He was admitted on Saturday night. He was also administered several rounds of dialysis. The actor had a similar health condition after his bypass surgery in 2014. He was suffering from kidney ailment.

The veteran actor is survived by two sons Kunal and Karan Kapoor and a daughter Sanjana. He began his career as a lead actor in Bollywood films in 1961 with the film Dharamputra. He started as a child artist in 1940's. He had taken the name 'Shashiraj' in the 40's instead of Shashi as there was another actor with his name in those days.

 The youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor, he acted in over 150 films, many of which were in English language. Born in Kolkata in 1938, the actor's career took off in the 40's.

Awarded with Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2015 and Padma Bhusan in 2011, he has gifted the Hindi film industry with many hits. Sharmilee, Deewar, Kabhie Kabhie and Jab Jab Phool Khile.

He was married to Jennifer Kendel along with whom he established the Prithivi Theatre in 1978.

Bollywood mourns the death of this versatile actor who was considered as one of the most handsome actors of all times. He was not only a great star but also a wonderful human being.

Celebrities have been pouring in their respects and condolence messages all over social media.

Aamir Khan tweeted: "Shashi Uncle was not only a great star and a passionate filmmaker, but a wonderful human being. His work has always given Indian audiences great joy... His passing away is a sad day for all of us."
