Veteran Congress leader Vasant Sathe is no more, PM condoles death
Congress leader Vasant Sathe is nomore. On hearing the news of his death, the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, sent a condolence message to Sathe's son Subash Sathe from US.
VETERAN CONGRESS leader, Vasant Sathe, 86, passed away in Gurgaon on Friday evening. He is said to have died of heart attack.   He complained of chest pain late in the evening and was rushed to a private hospital but to no avail. He is survived by a son and two daughters, while his wife had passed away a few years ago.
 
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is currently in US, has condoled the death of Sathe. In his a condolence message to Sathe's son Subash Sathe, the PM said, "He (Vasant Sathe) was a strong advocate of India's cultural diplomacy and held the position of president of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations with great distinction."
 
Sathe (1925 - 2011) had been a loyalist to Nehru-Gandhi family and an out-spoken politician of Congress party. A lawyer by education, he became an MP in 1972 and peformed as a cabinet minister during the 1980s under Indira Gandhi.
