Veteran Malayalam actor Cochin Haneefa no more
Malayalam actor Cochin Haneefa succumbed on February 2, 2010 to a liver ailment. His 30 plus years in cinema saw him act in 300 films including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. He is also credited with the direction of seven Malayalam and six Tamil films.
WELL KNOWN actor, writer and director of Malayalam and Tamil Cinema, Cochin Haneefa is no more. Haneefa, who was suffering with liver ailment passed away on 2nd February. Born as Salim Ahmed Ghous, he started off as a mimicry artiste to later become an accomplished actor and script writer. Cochin Haneefa started his career as a member of the famous Cochin Kalabhavan stage troupe.

He started his film career as a villain in 1979 but later on excelled in comic and character roles. In an acting career spanning more than three decades, he acted in more than 300 films including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. His last Malayalam film Body Guard was released last year. The veteran also directed seven Malayalam and six Tamil films.

Cochin Haneefa's all-time hits include Meesha Madahavan, Kireedom, Azhakiya Ravanan, and Parakam Thalika. His most recent movies were Loudspeaker and Body Guard (Malayalam) and Vettaikaran (Tamil). His death is a great loss to Indian cinema. Cochin Haneefa is survived by his wife and two children.
