It will be an interesting bout between the UPA and NDA. The NDA has to prove its worth in the contest - what with crucial state elections coming up later in the year, and General Elections a little over a year away.
July 23 was the last day and date for withdrawal, and finally on 07.08.2012 there will be a battle for votes between M/S Hamid Ansari and Jaswant Singh. The result will be known on the same day.
Vice President Hamid Ansari is yet to complete his tenure, which ends on August 10, 2012. The Vice-President is elected by the Members of the Electoral College consisting of the Members of both Houses of Parliament.
The Electoral College for the election of the Vice-President consists of a total 790 members from both houses; 233 elected members and 12 nominated Members from the Rajya Sabha, and 543 elected Members and 2 nominated Members from the Lok Sabha.
Certainly, it will be an interesting bout between the two stalwarts and a testing period for NDA and others.
Undoubtedly, both the candidates, courtesy their parties, will try to win the favour of the members of both the Houses but UPA’s candidate is expected to win over the NDA candidate with a close finish, and this is my prediction.
