Vice President Hamid Ansari greets people on Raksha Bandhan
The festival of Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi is celebrated on a full moon day in the month of Shravan according to the Hindu lunar calendar, and this year, the festival falls on August 10.

The Vice-President of India, M. Hamid Ansari has greeted citizens on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. According to a PIB release, Ansari said that the festival, which celebrates the sacred bond of love, care and protection between brother and sister, was a happy occasion to reaffirm these traditional social values that make us better human beings.

"I offer my greetings and good wishes to the citizens of our country on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. This festival, which celebrates the sacred bond of love, care and protection between brother and sister, provides us with a happy occasion to reaffirm these traditional social values that make us better human beings. May this festival bring peace, love and amity in the society," said Ansari in his message.

On this day, Sisters tie sacred threads called the 'Rakhi' on their brothers' wrist as a mark of sublime sentiments of mutual affection. As per traditions, the sister prepares the Puja Thali with a Diya, Rice, Roli and Rakhis and prays for his well-being of her brothers.
