Vice President Naidu greets people on Janmashtami
On the occasion of Janmashtami being celebrated today, Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu has greeted the people and extended his good wishes to them.

"Celebrated across the country with traditional fervor and enthusiasm, Janmashtami reminds us of the divine life of Lord Krishna. The eternal message of performing our duties with sincerity without attachment to the results bestowed by Lord Krishna in the 'Bhagwad Gita' has been a source of inspiration for entire humanity," stated Naidu in a released message.

He urged people saying, "On this auspicious day, let us all resolve to perform our duties and seek the path of righteousness. May this Janmashtami bring peace, amity, harmony and prosperity in our country."

Here are some messages from the Gita converted into haiku by me.

Shun lust, anger, greed –
They dehumanise, ruin life.
They're doorways to hell.
Sense pleasures entice -
they seem like nectar at first -
in end, turn poison.
Shun selfish desires.
I-me-mine create ego cage.
Break away, be free.
We have right to work –
never to the fruit of work.
Do detached action.
Intellect, wisdom -
Beyond  senses-body-mind.
But, pure self's utmost.
When there's no ego,
With non-reaction, equipoise.
Pure self awakens.
