Vice President Naidu releases book 'Prominent Sikhs of India' and lauds pro-active contribution of Sikhs to humanity
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, while releasing the book 'Prominent Sikhs of India' authored by Dr Prabhleen Singh of Panjab University, said that Guru Nanak Devji had founded Sikhism on the precept that the primary duty of humans lay in serving the people.

The book describes the lives of 50 distinguished Sikhs was released as a part of the 550th birth celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev that will last for one year. In his release address, the Vice Preident said, "Guru Nanakji, the founder of Sikhism, made an immense contribution to this great nation with his commitment to serve the poorest of the poor, irrespective of caste creed and religion. He laid the foundation to build a society whose primary duty lies in serving the people." He added that the book would inspire the youth of today.

He termed the book as literary piece that was a celebration and a salute to the highest summit of professional excellence and social responsibility attained by these exemplary Sikhs of India that had been described in the book.

"The book is a step towards enlightening the world about Sikhs and their pro-active contribution to the humanity especially in the contemporary tempestuous times of mistrust, prejudice and intolerance," added the official release quoting Naidu.
