Vice President Naidu stresses need for ensuring, promoting and safeguarding equity and inclusion in higher education
Inaugurating the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Sacred Heart College at Thevara in Kerala on February 1, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu stressed the need of safeguarding and promoting equity in higher education and ensuring inclusion of women, minorities, and differently abled persons by providing them a barrier free higher education environment, stated a press release.

According to the release, Naidu said that education should aim at the holistic development of all faculties of 'head', 'hand' and 'heart'; We should create an enabling atmosphere in the higher educational institutions to promote research and innovation by focussing sharply on the quality of education. He added that India was undergoing a digital revolution transforming lives and technology had enhanced the participation of people in governance.

He made the following important point in his address.

-Education is not only for employment but for enlightenment, enhancement of knowledge and empowerment and it should provide the knowledge, skills and attitude required for the 21st century.

-Education is the foundation for growth and development, both of individuals and society.

-Education is the process by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, and intellect is sharpened. Education provides the ability to break free from dogmas and abhorrent social practices such as discrimination and casteism.

-True education equips the youth to contribute to the material progress of the country as well as to maintain India's cultural and spiritual heritage.

-We should strive to create an enabling atmosphere in the higher educational institutions to promote research and innovations.

-Education would flourish only when all those with a stake in its success work closely together.

The Vice President urged civil society groups, community organisations, parents, teacher associations, professional bodies, women and youth groups to work together to strengthen education. He opined that our higher education system must be forever ready to update and upgrade.
