Victory of Congress Party at Patiala by-elections: Alarm bells for Akali-BJP alliance in Punjab?
Wife of former Punjab CM Capt. Amrinder Singh, Preneet Kaur has won the bypolls held for Patiala assembly seat. Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, the Congress MLA from Guruharsahai seat, while extending felicitations to Preneet Kaur, thanked the electorate of Patiala assembly constituency for extending their valuable and overwhelming support to Kaur.

Kaur registered a resounding victory over her rivals by a huge margin of over 23, 282 votes in the bypolls. It looks that the people of Punjab have expressed their faith in the illustrious leadership of Capt. Amrinder Singh by first electing him from Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency by a thumping majority and giving a crushing defeat to the BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley and now electing his wife Preneet Kaur from Patiala by a convincing margin.

Rana Sodhi stated that the decisive victory indicates the disillusionment of the people with the performance of Akali Dal-BJP Govt. who could not establish even a semblance of good governance and deliver even a fraction of the tall promises like increased pensions for elder persons, widow pensions, increased Shagun amount, laptops to students etc. made to the people during the last Assembly Elections.

Drug menace flourishing under the patronage of the ruling party political bosses and their minions is an example of worst kind of law and order situation in the state.

He further stated that the people of Punjab have realized their mistake by voting Akali-BJP dispensation and have returned to the Congress fold as it is only Congress which can ensure safety and security of women, safeguard peoples' interest especially the poor, Dalits and minorities.

Rana Sodhi expressed that the trend shown by today's result is a game changer and an indicator for the State Assembly Elections in 2017. He eulogized the party workers and appealed to the state leaders to forge unity and keep close contact with the people so that they are not again cheated and misled by the communal forces.
