Vijay Kumar wins India's fourth shooting medal in Olympics
On Friday, Indian shooter Vijay Kumar became the second Indian sports person to win an individual Olympic medal in the rapid fire pistol event.

IN THE finals at the Royal Artillery Barracks, Vijay Kumar shot a total of 584 to win a silver medal. Positions in the event were Leuris Pupo (Cuba) 586, 34, gold; Vijay Kumar (India) 585, 30, silver, and Ding Feng (China) 588, 27, bronze.

 

I have won medals at Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and all other competitions. This was one medal missing. Now my haul is complete. This is for my country,” said Vijay after winning the silver medal in the rapid fire pistol in London Olympics, reported The Times of India.

Vijay Kumar’s silver medal win in 25m rapidfire pistol follows Gagan Narang’s bronze medal in 10m air rifle. Thus, in different Olympics, India's has won four shooting medals so far.

It was Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore who won a silver medal in double trap at the 2004 Athens Games, followed by Abhinav Bindra as country's first individual gold medalist by winning the 10m air rifle in Beijing, and in this Olympics, India has won two shooting medals. The President of India has congratulated Vijay for silver at London Olympics.
