Virat Kohli's consistency - hallmark of a special cricketer
Virat Kohli's consistency over the last two years has been incredible. His last century against Zimbabwe was testimonial to the said fact. The Delhi batsman has scored more than 4000 runs in his short career of 100 odd ODI matches with an incredible average of 49 plus, which makes him one of the best Indian batsmen.

Anshuman Gaekwad, former coach of the Indian cricket team, considers Kohli's batting approach to be one of his major strengths. He said: “He is on the lookout of loose deliveries and scoring opportunities. His shot selection is very good. He only plays shots, which he can play.”

The batsmen of today are basically seen playing the Dil Scoop shot over the keepers head, paddle shot and other new shots, but Kohli is still someone who backs himself to clear the fence without playing such risky shots.

Kohli's strong character can be seen from the way he goes on about his game. “He knows when to accelerate and chooses which bowlers to attack as well,” said Gaekwad.

He has all the shots in his book, which make him a special player and hence, he does not have any major problem while playing against fast bowlers as well as spinners. On the same lines, Swaraj Pakhrin, a cricket fan from Lucknow said, “He plays according to the situation, which is backed by good technique.”

Kohli seems to be destined to take up greater responsibility with the Indian team, as many consider him to be the future Indian captain. He has a good cricketing brain, which could also help in taking Indian cricket to greater heights.

Whenever Kohli has been handed over the role of vice- captain or the captain, he has shown great maturity in dealing with tough situation and what is even more applaudable is the fact that added responsibility does not make him crumble under pressure. “Responsibility has brought the best out of him,” added Gaekwad.

Many Indian batsmen enjoy a great record at home, but on foreign soil, they fail to adjust with the bouncy and seaming conditions. However, Kohli, who has scored centuries in different surfaces in various parts of the world, is an exception.

“He is a player, who has been performing consistently all over the world. One should give credit to his good technique and temperament,” said Pakhrin. He has scored a total of 15 ODI centuries till date, which has helped him grabbing the record for the youngest and the fastest batsmen to do so.

But, it is not only the ODI format that the player has been earning a name for himself. Though, Kohli might not have had a good start in his Test career, but gradually, he is coming in terms and has played some brilliant Test innings, where he has scored two centuries in the last five Test matches. The best thing about the player is the way he converts starts into big scores – hallmark of a good cricketer. “It is not only in the ODI's but also in Tests, where he converts good starts to 100s. It is a mark of a good batsman.”

There are some players in the Indian team, who needs to learn from Kohli. One such batsman is Rohit Sharma, who is one of the best talents in India, but has not been able to replicate his talent to performance. Kohli may be less talented, but his hard work, determination, and character has brought the best out of him.
