Wonderful journeys start with wonderful stories and so is the case with Pooja Kumar, who started her acting journey with Kamal Hasan's Vishwaroopam. In an interview tells us about her journey so far.
VISHWAROOPAM, A film written directed and co-produced by Kamal Hassan, and scheduled to release on July 13, 2012, is also the debut movie of Pooja Kumar. Being the new girl in town and being chosen by Kamal Hasan certainly shows that the girl has potential, and this has pitched her in the spotlight these days. Telling us more about the movie Kumar in the video tells us about herself - the girl from New York who was given a break in the Tamil film industry by none other than Kamal Hasan himself.
When she contested in the Miss Indian USA pageant, she did it solely to meet other Indian American girls, and never in her wildest dreams thought that she had a shot at the crown. However, as success stories go, she not only got a shot but actually won the title that opened many doors for her. Realising her creativity and her liking for the profession, she started her training in the American Academy of Dramatics, and also trained with Roshan Taneja. It was a period whereby she learnt that creativity means not the medium but doing one thing or the other to learn and create things.
When asked about her first break and Kamal Hasan, the petite Indian girl with a definite American accent gave a sweet smile and said that it was obviously a memorable experience for her. Initially, she couldn't believe her luck that Tamil God Kamal actually wanted her to be a part of a film, and that too star opposite him. Going on about him, she said that she learnt a lot from the actor and saw how he wanted to create something out of the norm. That he was a risk-taker was one thing that is very impressive for the actress.
The girl, who is yet to get the airs of actresses, said that she hopes that she is been able to justify her role in the film. As for her part, she researched as much as she could and had lots of discussions with Kamal Hassan, who was patient and yet strict. Pooja plays an Oncologist, Dr. Nirupama, in the spy thriller movie and the story unravels through her eyes. Enticing the audience, the beauty says that it is quite a different film and one must not give it a miss.
