Voting begins for the final phase of West Bengal polls
Voting has begin on a brisk note in the sixth and final phase ofWest Bengal elections. Voting is taking place in the three districts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
POLLING IS going on briskly in the sixth and final phase of polls in West Bengal, which began at 7 am today. The polling is taking place for 14 assembly constituencies in which the fate of 97 candidates will be decided in the Maoist hit districts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
 
Over 26 lakh voters will exercise their franchise today in West Bengal and this will conclude the elections in the state. Top political leaders, whose fate will be decided today include, Susanta Ghosh, who is a cabinet minister and contesting from Garbeta constituency.
 
PCPA leader Chhatradhar Mahato is contesting as independent from Jharghram. He has also floated an independent party called Durniti Santras O Samrajyabad Birodhi Ganatantrik Mancha.
 
As the polling is taking place in a Maoist affected area, tight security arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incidence. To check any attacks from the Maoists, the government has deployed 614 para-military companies in the three districts.
 
Authorities have also sealed inter-state border with Orissa and Jharkhand to prevent the movement of miscreants.
 
More than 3500 polling booths have been set up in the three districts to ensure that people can vote with ease and comfort.
 
Ruling Left Front is contesting 12 seats in today’s election, whereas Trinamool Congress is fighting nine seats, while Congress is in fray for seats.
