Voting power allows people to determine their own destiny: President Mukherjee
Lauding the outstanding work of Election Commission (EC) of India on National Voters Day on January 25, President Pranab Mukherjee said that voting power allowed people to determine their own destiny by exercising the freedom to elect their own representatives.

Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Nasim Zaidi released the book titled, 'Belief in the Ballot' and presented the first copy to the President at the event and expressed happiness about enthusiastic participation of people in the electoral process as the key to healthy democracy.

Awards for Best Electoral Practices were given to Chief Electoral Officers, District Electoral Officers, SPs, Officers involved in election management; and to Media Houses and Civil Society Organizations for best campaign in Voters' Education and Awareness.

According to an official release, 25th January is also the foundation day of the Commission, which came into being on this day in 1950. The Commission's objective through NVD is to increase enrolment of voters, especially of the newly eligible ones.

The National Voters' Day is also utilized to spread awareness among voters regarding effective participation in the electoral process. National Voters' Day celebrations will be organized in all polling station locations across the country. State level function is organized by the Chief Electoral Officers of the State concerned, informs the release.

This year, the EC will be presenting a Tableau with the theme 'Inclusive and Qualitative Participation' at the Republic Day parade Rajpath in New Delhi.
