On July 18, the premier educational institute Symbiosis International University has an interactive session with Indian and international students. Vice President of India M Hamid Ansari graced the occasion as the chief guest at the event.
SYMBIOSIS INTERNATIONAL University (SIU), a premier educational institute in the nation, organised a one of the kind interactive session with Indian and international students on Saturday (July 18), at Symbiosis Vishwabhavan, Pune. His Excellency, M Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India, graced the occasion as the chief guest at the event. Accompanying him on the dais was Minister of Rehabilitation and Relief Work of Maharashtra Diliprao Deshmukh, member of parliament Suresh Kalmadi, Pune Mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale, founder director of SIU Padmashree Dr SB Mujumdar, vice chancellor MS Raaste and principal director Vidya Yerwadekar.
Attended by over 500 students from across the globe, the session aimed at bridging the relation between International and Indian students, giving them a common platform to interact.
The vice president started the interactive sessions on the jovial note, stating, “I have developed a good habit, to listen than to talk,” adding that at present times, it is also of professional requirement. Bringing out his diplomatic stand on various issues, he tackled questions thrown at him ranging from security of the state to foreign policy and education, tiding over civil justice, economic disparity and media responsibility.
Ansari sparked up a thunderous clap when he was questioned about his notions on the Kashmir issue. “My opinion is India’s opinion. Kashmir is a part of India. Full stop,” he said. With regard to Myanmar, following his recent visit, he said that India is all up for an economic agenda with them. “Indian technology and expertise will definitely be of use to them in their mission to build a sound state. We are looking to positive political and cultural relations with all our neighbours, including Afghanistan and Bangladesh.”
Claiming government regulation of media is never the way and that the media needs to self regulate, he said that the media has to be socially responsible and they should not get carried away by TRP ratings. This is where the government regulations come into play.
Lauding the government initiatives to employment, education and percolation of e-governance to the rural poor, the vice president however, expressed discontent with regard to the artisan talent pool in India. “For a nation that built the Taj Mahal, the Meenakshi temple and the Qutub Minar, there is an acute shortage of artisans today. The old system of passing down the skills from one generation to the next has died and the new system is inefficient. We need to concentrate on vocational training as part of education,” he opined. He stressed that than introducing more courses, the need of the hour is to make the education system relevant to the requirement of the day- nationally and globally.
