VP Naidu and PM Modi extend good wishes and greetings for the Year 2018
On the occasion of New Year's Day, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to the citizens of the country for the year 2018, said the official release.

In the released message, Vice President stated, "I convey my warm greetings and best wishes to all our citizens on the advent of Year 2018. On the joyous occasion of beginning of Year 2018, let us collectively resolve to dedicate ourselves towards building a peaceful, prosperous and harmonious society."

"May the Year 2018 bring peace, prosperity and happiness in the lives of every citizen of our country," he added.

Extending New Year's greeting to the countrymen in his last edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' , Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it was a coincidence that the day happened to be the last day of the year of 2017.

"A few hours later, the year will change, but this sequence of our conversation will go on, just the way it is. We will renew this exchange of thoughts on newer topics in the year to come, we'll share new experiences. Heartiest New Year greetings to all of you."

Since the PM dwelled on the topic of 'spirit of service', he linked his talk to the festive season of Christmas holidays. "Over the last few days, the festival of Christmas was celebrated across the world with gaiety and fervour. People in India too celebrated Christmas with warmth and cheer," he said.

"The pious occasion of Christmas reminds us of the great teachings of Jesus Christ who laid much emphasis on the spirit of service, 'sewa bhaav'. The essence of the spirit of service can be felt in the Bible too," he was quoted to have stated in the English version of the released text of his talk.
