W. Bengal's Kangaroo court delivers a body blow to human rights, gender justice and rule of law
Let some sense to prevail. It's high time we shunned the medieval mindset and patriarchal prejudices of treating women as per one's whims and fancy. The stark reality we are facing everyday which calls for justice and some sense to prevail in the way women receive societal treatments- stalking, staring, groping, voyeurisms, assault and rape.

Societal norms, rule of law, criminal justice system seem of no use and draw no sense for some sections of the society who tend to project that they are still living in Dark Age of absolute ignorance and overpowering women.

West Bengal gang rape case, where a Kangaroo court delivered a body blow to human rights, gender justice and rule of law, shows complete ignorance of the exiting laws- new and old-by a group of society. It is shameful for each one of us as we all are part of this society.

The harsh ruling by a bunch of sick people who consider themselves to be above law and order and passed out judgement for tarnishing the image of a girl for first falling in love with a boy outside her community and later failure to give fine asked to give. The so-called body of "Judges" passed the verdict of trampling the dignity of the girl by allowing brute force of 10 cowards on her.

The country has recently come out with changes in criminal laws to prevent crime against women, to prevent sexual oppression in the wake of the gang rape of a 23-year old para medical student in Delhi who succumbed to her injuries later which shook the conscience of the nation. But that seems no deterrent.

It's high time we realised that no law and rules can change this until there is a change in mindset. Society at large has to understand that woman is not an object that a man can keep in control of and play with. The mindset that men have an ownership and entitlement over women has to do away with.
