Walking down the princely Gangetic ghats of Kolkata
We were forced to slow down to admire the majestic sight of the Ganges, whose serene view was a treat for our tired eyes. The chirping of birds, the crowd of a few passersby sipping tea created an atmosphere of calm and peaceful existence.
ON A sombre afternoon amidst the unexpected rainfall, which had not been forecast, we friends were on our way to the unknown fragrances of the Gangetic ghats. As we drove past the Maidan and close to the Ganges, near the gates of Fort William we visualised the princely adventures of the land. The 1843 inauguration of the structure represented the grandeur of Curzon’s Kolkata and is one of the wonders of British treasures.

As we walked past the historic chambers of the gates and drove down like an army battalion with our latest photo-shooting gadgets, we were forced to slow down to admire the majestic sight of Mother Ganges, whose serene view was a treat for our tired eyes.

A bunch of sparrows hovered over our heads like welcoming guards of the age gone by. Amidst the scene of the once war-torn countryside, local trains lumbered across the silent zone of nature. The chirping of birds, the crowd of a few passersby sipping tea created an atmosphere of calm and peace, which overlooked the Vivekananda bridge or the second Howrah bridge as we better know it. The bridge serves as a memoir and bridges the cultural heritage of the nation. As we reached the feet of Ganges, the bridge overlooking the distant horizon served as nature’s wonderful plays of aesthetics. Our journey through Princep Ghat ended with a short walk around the Maidan as we saluted Mother Nature yet again.
