Want to be happy! Use Internet: study
Researchers have found a link between internet access and well-being. Over all, the study found that access to the internet leads people to feel better about their live.

THANK GOD at least there is something good to read about regarding the positive use of internet on human body. Market is flooded with findings that Internet makes you dull, weakens your memory, and brings stress, anxiety and addiction.

However, here is a finding of British researchers from Charted Institute of IT (Known as BCS) that spending time on the web could actually be making you happier. Researchers have found a link between internet access and well-being.

Over all, the study found that access to the internet leads people to feel better about their live. Michael Willmott, the social scientist and author of the study says, “Put simply, people with IT access are more satisfied with life even when taking account of income.”

Knowledge is power; there is no doubt about that. However, access to that knowledge is biggest problem. Lack of it makes you feel helpless. Here come the internet, to empower you through knowledge and awareness at fast pace.

“Our analysis suggests that IT has an enabling and empowering role in people’s live, by increasing their sense of freedom and control, which has appositive impact on well-being or happiness.” Wilmott adds.

The study analyzed data from 35,000 people across the globe who took part in the World Values Survey from 2005 to 2007. Looking at a number of socio-economic factors that determine happiness-including gender, age, income and education—the survey showed that internet use empowers people by increasing their feeling of security, personal freedom and influence.

Carlos Graham, Brookings Institute Professor in D.C. says, “The results …are plausible. If you introduce technology, that allows people to reduce their high constraints of getting daily life, it has a tremendous well-being affect.”

The survey found that the outcome of the correlation is independent of age factor, meaning it is not just kids who get something out of surfing the web but older as well.

In a shocking outcome, the researchers found that, women gain much more than compared to men. They come to conclusion that since women tend to be at the centre of the family’s social network, the web is a tool to help them keep their home live and organized.

Friendship is very important to well-being, and one can imagine e-mail and IT being good way to maintain those, particularly in context of telephone and transport.
