Was Ram Singh silenced before he could spill the beans?
Does 'in-camera' trial serve any purpose? Of course, in certain highly sensitive cases like espionage, such a mode of hearing is suggested. But, what about the events that outraged the entire nation? Yes, I am referring to the horrific incident of December 16 in the national capital? When there was a mass movement across the nation, the government ought to have been progressive and not otherwise.

Alas, what we have observed is that there has been a sort of gag on the media. I do understand from social perspectives, the identity of any rape victim should never be divulged. However, in this case, the hapless unfortunate and yet brave girl succumbed to the sexploitation inflicted upon her by the brutish five. Since she breathed her last, there was no point for the dictum to not to reveal the girl's identity. This ought to have been applicable on the parents of the girl too.

Although not meant to rake up any new or needless controversy, I am prompted to ask the powers-that-be how come the Transport Department and Traffic Police are not among the accused. As per the Supreme Court's directives, owners of all vehicles with tinted glasses were supposed to be warned and even fined heavily if they did not comply with the apex court's order.

For a week or so, the traffic cops were seen hauling up vehicles with tinted glasses and the dark screens were scratched out. Soon, it was back to square one and scenario continued to be the same over the past four years.

Hence, among the prime offenders were the Transport Department and the Traffic Police. And do they feature in the charge sheet? And now coming to the prime accused Ram Singh's death and the issue of ‘in camera’ proceedings, one is yet to know whether the cross-examination and counter arguments vis-a-vis the owner of bus was over and if not at what stage it had reached. He, as per preliminary police reports, is allegedly a don of transport mafia, as evident from the number of buses he owned and operated all over the NCR. Reportedly, a majority of the buses were registered with fictitious addresses. So one can easily guess as to how much clout he enjoyed.

Well, I am neither Sherlock Holmes-like sleuth nor a Perry Mason holding the briefs for defence in complicated cases. Nonetheless, I wish to deduce the two-plus-two formula although 3+1 also means 4. Did Ram Singh know more about the shady mode of bus owner’s operations? Was he silenced before he could spill the beans? This is just an armchair critic's hypothesis. Friends and readers are welcome to correct me if my assumption or presumption is wrong.
