Watch- Rahul Gandhi's 'Khat Sabha' in Deoria: Locals run away with cots
In a bid to attract farmers and labourers in the wake of upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi kick-started his month-long 2500 km Mahayatra from Deoria today. The Gandhi scion began his 'Kisan Yatra-cum-Khat Sabha' from Deoria by attacking Centre and the UP government.

Rahul Gandhi accused both the governments of 'having forgotten' farmers and labourers. "Modiji's government is doing a lot for big industrialists. We are not saying do anything for them. We are only saying do something for farmers as well," said Rahul Gandhi at the 'Khat Sabha' meeting with farmers.

While attacking the Samajwadi Party government that is ruling in the state, he said, "I am told there used to be 17 sugar mills in this district. But today, all of them have been shut. Who is responsible for this? The Centre and the UP government have forgotten farmers."

But it looks like while Gandhi was trying to woo the gathering with his promises of 'loan waiver' and 'reduction in power tariff by 50 per cent' if voted to power, it was 'khatiyas' or cots that were attracting them the most.

It got proved also as the residents were seen walking away with the brand new cots placed there by the Congress for Gandhi's 'Khat Sabha'. Reportedly, they started walking away with the cots even before Mr. Gandhi finished his speech.

Actually, it all started when 'Khat Sabha' attendees stormed into a tent where food items and water bottles were kept. After attacking the tent, few of them then began taking up cots and the others followed. Eventually, only cots made of iron were left on the wide ground as they were heavy to lift.

The 'khat sabha' was an unique initiative to entice villagers by the Congress. The party initiated its inclusive 'Deoria to Dilli yatra' with an aim to end its 27-year exile from power in UP.

The Congress leader reached to Deoria at 11 am by chopper and started his campaign by knocking the doors of the farmers.
