The email may state that you may have won a lottery, or some one may have died leaving a huge wealth and you have been selected to receive the wealth. Once you respond to such email the sender comes to know that you have taken the bait.
EMAIL USERS across the globe may have at one time or other received a mail wherein it might have been stated that their email account has won a lottery of some million dollars. All the user is required to do is fill in certain details and resend it for the claim to be processed and for arranging the funds to be transferred to the user’s account.
The email at first glance appears all authentic because they present their story in such way that anyone with a weak heart for money may fall in trap. The email may state that you may have won a lottery, or some one may have died leaving a huge wealth and you have been selected to receive the wealth. Once you respond to such email the sender comes to know that you have taken the bait. The sender then asks you to deposit certain amount in their account as a processing fee. The demand keeps going and it would be too late when you realise that you have been cheated. The amount deposited is immediately withdrawn by the cheats, so even if you lodge complaint there is hardly any chance that you would be able to recover your money.
Reserve Bank of India has recently released a press note cautioning the general public against such emails and to lodge complaint if they receive any such demand for money.
Recently even mobile users are getting messages stating that their mobile number has won some million dollars. Please do not respond to such messages because again it could be a trap by fraudsters. It is high time that mobile operators exercise certain amount of caution while forwarding such bulk messages. Even if one per cent of email or mobile users respond, the fraudster achieves their aim.
Email users should immediately delete such messages rather than test checking their authenticity. The contents of such email keep on changing to make it appear more genuine. If you have already acted on such email do take action to recover the amount by filing police complaint if necessary.
