Water scarcity hits Delhi yet again
The issue of water paucity has again hit the national capital and with the onset of summers a month away this problem is going to assume dangerous proportions. It is high time that the government comes out with a plan to deal with the situation.
WATER IS the key to our existence. It is a stark irony of our times that while three-fourth of the earth is covered with water people here in Delhi are still seraching and hunting for potable water. The water paucity issue is back in the news as people in many areas of Delhi are searching for healthy drinking water.

It has been found that mismanagement and over-exploitation is the major reason behind water scarcity. Leaking taps, open pipes and lack of utilisation of rain water, and population growth - all are adding to the already bad situation.

The increasing cases of gastroentitis, typhoid and other water-borne diseases indicate the poor quality of drinking water. Due to water crisis, it is common to see fights in slum areas, and the problem is reaching the same level in posh areas of Delhi, the national capital.

It is high time authorities find a solution to this problem and for this they will have to create a awareness among people to save and wisely use water. Media campaigns should be launched and students should also be involved in this process as soon this is going to become a major crisis.

The people who misuse and waste water should also be punished and action taken against them.

The frustrating thing is that every summer its the same old problem all over again. Will our authorities never learn from past problems. What will it take to fix the perennial problem of shortage of drinking water in the city?
