Water stagnation can lead to serious health hazards
There are places where open drains are clearly visible. Also clearly visible are water getting stagnated in these drains. There could be serious health hazards of water stagnation as water in stagnated condition can result in becoming a breeding ground for different insects including mosquitoes.
These mosquitoes may transmit may diseases chief ones being dengue, malaria, eastern equine encephalitis and many more.

Water in stagnated condition also causes the spread of contamination from animal feces and pesticides. Different types of bacteria and parasites which may prove to be a health hazard may find such an atmosphere (water stagnating areas) as an incubator for survival and thriving.

Also there are reports that mold and mildew may start to grow in areas where water is getting stagnating which can trigger asthma symptoms and allergic reactions in sensitive people.

Stagnation of water can be due to numerous reasons. Chief ones being, stagnation in swamps, lakes, lagoons, etc. Also includes surface and ground water stagnation, trapped water stagnation. The water may be trapped in human artifacts (discarded cans, plant pots, tires, dug-outs, roofs, etc.) as well as in natural containers such as hollow tree trunks, leaf sheaths, etc.

However, water getting stagnated in open drains is indeed a big health hazard and concerned people should do everything to control the side effects of such drains to the bare minimum.

Covering such drains or making the water to be in mobile condition are some of the solutions which would help in controlling the side effects of such water stagnation. Some reports suggest that by installing perforated drains with the help of an architect or a water damage specialist, the situation may be brought under control. For avoiding ground and surface water stagnation, drainage of surfaced and subsoil is advised.

Areas with a shallow water table are more susceptible to ground water stagnation due to the lower availability of natural soil drainage.

Experts may be involved in debating the above issue for coming out with the best of the solution to make the society and community live in good healthy environment.
