Watergate: Filthy water in branded bottles sparks fear among residents
Even if you buy a mineral water bottle for 70 rupees, don't think that you are out of harm's way. In a shocking catch, Gurgaon police have found thousands of spurious water bottles, pasted with well-known labels, supplied from unhygienic locations.

THE WATERGATE has sparked fear among the residents of Gurgaon and many believe they have even started to fear the water bottles; they have been drinking for years. Mansi Sharma, a resident of Palam Vihar wants police to be more robust to check for more such people. “They have to arrest the culprits and they should be awarded an exemplary punishment because it is a matter of health,” said Sharma. “We try our best to remain free from diseases and buy the expensive water bottles but this is just shocking,” she added.

According to Hindustan Times, police have arrested five low-level workers but is trying to catch the big fishes. Quoting DCP (east) Maheshwar Dayal, it said: “The accused have been in this business in Gurgaon for years. They said there are five illegal plants here. Our teams raided these plants and sealed them on Tuesday night.”

Come summer and there are more chances of various types of viral infections and people try to drink water that comes though taps in their homes and instead chose to buy different brands of distilled water such as Bisleri, Aquafresh and Kingfisher. With this shocking news, people have a genuine reason to feel cheated and frightened.

One would have wanted that regular checking is put into place by the health department and it wouldn’t be out of place to have a team of experts who would go for surprise checks on the shops selling distilled water. This would make sure that pure water is supplied to the residents instead of ‘dirt in branded bottles’.

In the absence of checking squads, people burn a hole in their pockets and go for advanced systems like ‘reverse osmosis’, which again are not affordable for the common man. This would mean that the common man would find no place in this Millennium City, which seems to be becoming an oasis only for the rich and wealthy.
