We have failed the schools: Joseph A. Fernandez in book 'Tales out of School'
The book "Tales out of school: Joseph Fernandez's crusade to rescue American education" is authored by Joseph A. Fernandez with John Underwood exploring the issue of schools not being up to the mark in the government sector.

The main author of the book being a veteran administrator in the American educational system describes his personal inside accounts and opinions about the school system and offers his suggestions, recommendations and prescriptions for the future of schools.

The book is relevant in the present educational scenario since schools in the government sector are under performing in most countries. The United States and India are no exceptions. There is need to learn from this book that examines the issue that why schools have become the low-quality institutions.

Everybody says that the government schools have failed, but the author says, "The schools haven't failed. We have failed the schools. But we can also save them. There are ways."

And, the book published by Little, Brown and Company has highlighted the plight of American government schools through the case studies to make pertinent recommendations to get the sullen school education system back functioning state.

The authors point out that the culprits for the bad state of affairs of education are the insiders as put forth, "by all rights, education should be an easy sell because you never find who is 'against' it. No advocacy group clamours for its overthrow, no politician or columnist protests its irrelevanceā€¦ the trouble, therefore, can only be with those who are 'for' it. I have found you can easily mistake the actions of those for it as being against it."

Thus, the authorities and the teachers who run the government schools need to correct themselves to improve the system. The insiders are working against the education system and spoiling it. The book that runs into 278 pages can be a good guide for the educational administrators to make the school functional with high standards.

Looking at the Indian school education system, the scenario is much worse than the US schools. The quality of system management and classroom instruction is pathetic in the government schools and our school education administration can learn lessons to improve the plight of government schools and other support institutions.
