PRAKASH JAVADEKAR, a member and a leader of BJP talks about the party's preparation for the upcoming elections.

How has been the Bharatiya Janata Party’s journey so far?

BJP’s foundation is really strong. In the last four years, our party has won in Gujarat, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh. We are very optimistic. Our party is working really hard. This time we have won in Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh. We have consolidated our position in Jammu and Kashmir by wining 11 seats out of 37. We are glad for whatever support we have gained in J&K. This is an absolute win. We hope the verdict is on our side. Though we lost Delhi elections, still it is a good beginning for this year. Our party is at wining stage.

What are the changes your party will bring if BJP wins?

If BJP wins, the party is pledged to build up India as a strong, prosperous and secure nation. The party stands for strong national defence as India has become an insecure place due to weak security forces. We will take into account the vital issues like inflation, large-scale unemployment and terrorism. Laws will be more stringent to tackle terrorism. The borders will be made secure. Keeping public place safer in the capital is also our prime concern as these days, women feel unsafe and scared to move out of their houses.

What do you have to say about economic recession?

Recession has not only affected other countries but has also befallen India. Ours is a globalised economy, so it’s bound to be affected. Nobody can help in this issue.

What do you have to say about Indo-Pak relations after the Mumbai terror attack?

We believe in good relations with our neighbours. But terrorism from Pakistan’s side has made our relations bitter. So both terrorism and peace can’t go hand in hand. Pakistan should keep its promise that it would not glorify terrorism.
