In a fresh instance of mindless, unrestricted violence there has been Maoist attack in Bihar hot on the heels of the recent Midnapore attack that killed 24 policemen. Weak, indifferent politics is at the root.
AFTER THE Midnapore Maoist attack on the police three days ago a village in Jamui district of Bihar faced the brutality of the Maoists on February 18, 2010. After gunning down 28 policemen, they murdered 12 people in the Jamui district.
These incidences and the attacks in the past, which left about 500 people dead in 2009, clearly indicate the fact that the so-called Maoists no longer have a political agenda, instead they are common terrorists armed with modern weapons. Weak politics is giving encouraging them, as is very evident from the recent decision of the Jharkhand government to release Maoists from jail in exchange of the BDO abducted citing the reason that his wife is threatening to self-immolate.
Few days back Shibu Soren and Nitish Kumar were absent from the chief ministers’ meet held in New Delhi to discuss and chalk out strategies to restrict Maoists activities in the remote areas of the country. Needless to say that it is this kind of uninvolved and indifferent politics is standing in the way of development and encouraging such terrorist activities.
