Website stirs row, says Ambani behind YSR chopper crash

A LOCAL TV Channel in India has stirred a row as it telecast news on Thursday – a Russian website claiming that RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani is behind the chopper crash death of Andhra Pradesh chief minister YSR Reddy.

As per the website, the alleged conspiracy to kill YSR Reddy stemmed from the Godavari Gas Basin issue, which was assumingly a bone of contention between Ambani and Reddy. It further stated that thousands of crores were paid to suppress the news of YSR’s alleged ‘assassination’.

The report was immediately picked up by other television channels. Within hours the news was telecast, YSR supporters went on a rampage across the state and vented their anger on Reliance Retail outlets. As the situation aggravated, Congress activists have called for a bandh in several parts of the state on Friday.

The local television channel said a Russian web magazine, The Exiled, had speculated that there could be a conspiracy behind Reddy’s death, as he had stressed that the gas find by RIL in the Krishna-Godavari basin was a national asset and the Ambani brothers, including their mother Kokilaben, had no right to distribute it between them.

Sources revealed that the government has now asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the circumstances leading to the death of Reddy.
