A month-long preparations are undertaken for the Durga Puja, which is considered as the most important festival in West Bengal. As the puja is fast approaching people are making last minute preparations to welcome Ma Durga.
AS THE coutdown for Durga Puja begins, festival fever has gripped West Bengal with locals thronging the markets, especially in Kolkata in large numbers. In West Bengal, the much-awaited festival is celebrated with much enthusiasm and gaiety.
Speaking to ANI, a local said that she has come for shopping for new dresses and accessories for this festive season. She said, “I have just started shopping and still have a lot of things to shop ahead of the rituals. I have to buy bags and clothes. New styles of traditional dresses have come in the market. Since winters are approaching we have to look for winter clothes as well.”
The state that is soaked in the Puja fervor is all set to welcome Ma Durga on October 20 in huge Pandals. The Hindu trinity of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu created Goddess Durga, the most powerful of all Gods and Goddess to vanquish the demons. Hence the term Durga Puja, which means worshiping the goddess. It is believed that the goddess makes the annual visit to the world and the festivities are meant to welcome her.
