West Bengal to go for phase 5 of elections on Saturday
With the fifth phase out of six phases of elections taking place in West Bengal on Saturday, Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress looks fired up as it has hinted on changing the state administration and recruiting fresh and determined officials.
THE FIFTH round out of the six phase voting in West Bengal will take place on Saturday with twenty six assembly seats in the fray across the Maoist infested districts of Purulia, West Midnapore and Bankura. The voting will be held across thirty eight constituencies, which also includes 12 constituencies in Burdwan district.

In order to ensure free and fair polls, the Maharashtra Chief Electoral officer has been appointed as the special observer for the fifth and sixth round of voting on May 7 and May 10. Apart from that, 600 companies of paramilitary forces have been put on duty in Jangalmahal. In the polls, 74.17 lakh voters are expected to cast their votes for, which 9245 polling booths have been set up.

With the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress fired up as agents of change, the party has hinted on changing the state administration, which also includes the police for better and smoother state administration, if they come into power.
The party will be seen playing its cards safe by sidelining the officers and bureaucrats who once worked with the CPI(M) and recruiting numerous fresh and efficient officers.

Officials cognizant with the matter have stated that the hush hush affair by the TMC also has some drawbacks like 372 new posts have been created recently in the municipal affairs department as they have put their own people in these posts. An official also stated that the Left Front government reappointed several officials.

Some were promoted out of turn, superseding seniors. If and when the new government comes to power, they will not work for us and may sabotage our plans. We have already drawn up a list of officials and all orders of the Left Front government.

However, it seems that bright prospects await for the Opposition in Burdwan and Purulia Town although the chances are minimal in Barabani in Burdwan district.

Other places where the Opposition can capitalise keeping in account the close finish they had in the earlier elections include Barjora, Debra, Purulia, Kharagpur Sadar, Bishnupur, Daspur, Bankura.
