Meditation is not concentration, in concentration, there is an object being concentrated upon. In meditation there is nobody outside and nobody inside. There is no division between in and out.
THERE ARE many wrong concepts about the word ‘meditation’. Many people think that meditation means concentration upon an object or over a point. Meditation is not concentration, in concentration, there is an object being concentrated upon.
There is duality. One who is concentrating and other is the object. In meditation there is nobody outside and nobody inside. There is no division between in and out. Concentration is a dual consciousness, that’s why after concentrating upon a certain thing one feels tired and exhausted. And one cannot concentrate for 24 hours. Concentration can never become someone’s nature.Meditation is just the opposite. It neither makes u tired, nor exhausts you. It can become a 24 hours affair, because it is a deep relaxation itself. In concentration the mind functions out of a conclusion. Concentration comes out of the past, whereas in meditation there is no motive behind it and one’s not doing anything in particular. You are simply being, it has no past, no future. It is a state of no-action.
That state – when you allow life to go on its own way, when you don’t want to direct it, control it or manipulate it. When you are not forcing any discipline on it – that state of pure undisciplined spontaneity is what meditation is. Meditation is present, you are not meditating, but you can be in meditation, where as you can not be in concentration, you have to concentrate, concentration is human and meditation is divine. We believe and think that every machine needs rest and we also know that body needs rest, but what about the mind? It is never in a state of rest because of constant traffic of thoughts, desires. Meditation is the state of no mind. When the mind is not doing anything, it is utterly silent, that silence is meditation. Truth can be known in silence and never otherwise. Meditation is the awareness that I am not the mind. When awareness goes deeper, slowly few moments arrives of silence, of pure space, of transparency, moments when nothing stirs in you and everything is still. In those still moments there is self-realization. You will know for the first time who you are and the mystery of this existence.
