What is spirituality all about?
According to literature on parapsychology and ancient Indian scriptures, spirituality pertains to the process of discovering oneself existentially to get the transcendent meaning and ultimate purpose of life. It is a reflective journey beyond body, mind and senses into a realm of the non-physical and forming a personal philosophy of life.

In spirituality, the attempt to understand one's true nature, existential purpose, soul or spirit, and getting connected to it are made.  It has been observed that awareness of spiritual existence and its expression can take many forms such as devotion, pro-action, service, volunteerism, yoga, meditation, artwork, dance, singing, knowledge construction, etc, for their own worth.

However, spiritual wellness involves a connection between people and something greater than themselves as empathic oneness. This something greater could be a higher power, a person's own sense of meaning and purpose of life, values or belief system.

These days, emotional and mental health, physical health, and spiritual health are all part of total wellness. The mind, body and spirit are connected, so when wellness in one area is lacking, other areas of health might be affected.

For example, persons who develop some chronic health conditions may not feel optimistic about life and their health improving.  If they become unable to work, enjoy hobbies, or take care of activities of daily life on their own, they may struggle to find meaning in life. These feelings could contribute to depression. However, with spiritual therapy, he can still live with inner happiness from moment to moment and have better chances of recovery.

Researches in parapsychology and yoga science indicated that people who develop good spiritual health are more optimistic; have higher degree of compassion and empathy; and live harmoniously with nature.

Keeping the foregoing in view, the concept of spiritual intelligence is being explored as a part of learning theories and pedagogy for combining life and learning both.
