Booni our only daughter, she was born pink and tender
With my eyes and hair and her mother’s nose
She cried no so loud the moment she was born, Why? Only God knows.
She was the Angel in our house and we all watched her grow
I missd her every day, because to college and other jobs I had to go
In school she did her ranks, her mother used to teach
Come day to Puri we went, the beautiful sea beach
She wanted to learn swimming in the ocean,
The motion of the wave terrible, it was all confusion
My Booni, I never did anything for her, I couldn’t teach anything to her
Could not teach her cycling, swimming or English
When she had been so near!
All day it was she all around, she was the Angel of our home
In my dreams, my real moments of pain and pleasure she did roam
It was her final day of school yet she was so cool
She was always a quiet child and tried to follow the rule.
We both her dad and mom waited for her all day long
The school bus smoked with a harsh and nothing went wrong.
We hate to leave you all alone our Booni
We’ll miss you when you go away
Little daughter you will always shine, the world may go its way.
You had been to Christ Church school
KAV and Xavier’s and then to NEHU, Shillong
Now doing your Ph.D. in Pilani for a time so long
Still I feel that we daughter and parent walk together all the way
Today your wedding bells ring and we cannot expect you any more to stay.
Little daughter, yes, only 25, so what! please don’t cry
Wipe out tears and keep them dry.
We will be together though your marriage makes us apart
We shall have memories in our deeper deeper heart.
Our parents and relatives and all those who are near and dear
All who came with blessings and good wishes for you here
Will give you their best gifts, the Gifts of the MAGI
This gift may not have material value,
But a singular bond and an inseparable tie.
