Where will 'Smart and Internet of Things' imagery lead us?
The projects like smart cities, smart classrooms, smart or e-governance, smart homes, digital nation, e-commerce, biometrics and artificial intelligence, etc., are building a new imagery of life that is luxurious and internet addictive. Both markets and governments are heading towards a extreme materialistic and capitalistic set- up through so called smart or digital life controlled by the 'Internet of Things'.

According to digital experts, the 'Internet of Things' (IoT) connect every human activity digitally and monitor which is done by placing a software in devices and applications capable of transmitting data over the Internet infrastructure with a minimal human interaction.

A report titled 'Sensing the Future of the Internet of Things' says the following about market and life. "IoT is transforming the everyday physical objects that surround us into an ecosystem of information that will enrich our lives. From refrigerators to parking spaces to houses, the IoT is bringing more and more things into the digital fold every day, which will likely make the IoT a multi-trillion dollar industry in the near future."

In other words, the next generation of digital communication is going to make the 'controllers' or 'governance' which is focussing on extreme authoritarian modalities of development. Some sociologists are warning that, in the digitized 'smart' world, development is being seen as linear transformation through new market opportunities for rich and dominant.

In a recent conference in Hyderabad, some social scientists had raised the concern that smart solutions through digitization such as "Digital Nation"  and "Smart Cities" through smart solutions were expelling the poor from the main agenda of human development through their social isolation and it seems to the extreme of divide-and-rule ploy where there is minimum socialization and least mutual human interaction.

We need to consider the comment of Eric Schmidt, which goes like this, "The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had. " He also warns saying, "You have to fight for your privacy or you lose it. "

It made many think that digitized world through 'smart imagery' has the hidden agenda of ultra-capitalistic engagement of people. And, what do you think of that?
