The second part of Dhoom and Krrish improved on the technology in the films and attracted more audiences. Hrithik Roshan looked and felt like a Greek god in Dhoom 2 and Aishwarya Rai complimented him well with her character and looks. It was the highest grossing film of the year in 2006. Krrish, which was also released in the same year saw a dip in its audience as the story did not create the awe inspiring feeling that was created by Dhoom 2.
Chopra's vs Roshan's in the box office in the past: who won?
Since Koi Mil Gaya was released in 2003 and Dhoom was released in 2004, a comparative study would not be fair. But if we have to look at both their successes, it has to be noted that Koi Mil Gaya was the highest grosser of the year 2003 with 42 crores. Dhoom on the other hand, was a blockbuster but it did a business of 29 crores in 2004. Thus in the first round Roshan won against the Chopras.
Dhoom 2 and Krrish were both released in the same year of 2006
The above bar graph shows a comparative study of Krrish and Dhoom 2 based on their Net Gross amount, Gross amount and distribution share in the year 2006. Since Dhoom 2 was the highest grosser of the year and did a roaring business and left Krrish far behind in the box office collections.
Dhoom vs Krishh: Star Power
The Yash Raj films try to rope in the best actors for each of their projects and Dhoom was an ambitious project. Abhishek Bachchan, who was at his best shape then, portrayed the role of a cop and John Abraham with his roughish looks made the charming thief and Uday Chopra was the adorable side kick. If this was not enough to lure the audience, then they bought in Esha Doel and Bipasha Basu to increase the attraction level.
The Hayabusa bikes and the stunt scenes were also a first time in Bollywood. Dhoom 2 was an even bigger success with Hrithik Roshan as an attractive, handsome thief and Aishwarya Rai as a compatible partner. Abhishek Bachchan resumed his role of a cop but by Dhoom 2, people were forgetting him as a lead and Uday Chopra's career was almost finished. Inspite of these drawbacks, two leading actors with international locales pulled all the correct strings and the film went on to become the highest grosser of the year (150 crore) in 2006.
Koi Mil Gaya, on the other hand was about an abnormal kid, who fell in love with Preity Zinta's character in the film. What could have been the run-in-mill love story was saved by the intervention of ET or aliens, who not only loved Dhoop but also lured the young and the old alike to theaters. This bored well for the makers as this was 2003s highest grossing film making 42 crores.
Rekha, Preity Zinta and Hrithik Roshan told a compelling story. The second part of the film named Krrish was not such a bigger success then the prequel. Although promoted well in Bollywood as the first time masked crusader with extraordinary powers, neither Hrithik Roshan as the hero or Priyanka Chopra as the damsel in distress could enthrall the audience as the first part did.
Dhoom 3 vs Krrish 3: Numerology
Noted numerologist MK Damodaran read into the future prospects of both the films:
Krrish 3 will be released on November 4. The date is not directly linked to the prominent numbers of Rakesh Roshan. He was born on September 6, 1949, and his birth number is 6. So, his basic lucky numbers are 3,6 and 9. His fate number is 38(3+8=11,1+1=2). His Sun Sign is related to number 5. Also, his occult number is 41(4+1=5).
Thus, it is clear that November 4 has no direct numerological relation with any of the prominent numbers of Rakesh Roshan. Fate number of November 4, 2013 is 12(1+2=3). It is related to his basic lucky number. November 4 falls in the Sun Sign of Scorpio. Number 9 is related to Scorpio. Occult number of Krrish 3 is 18 (1+8=9).
Further, the occult number of "Rakesh" is 41. In that way, the release seems to be lucky. According to certain numerological quarters, occult number 18 is not-so-lucky.
Aditya Chopra was born on May 21, 1971. His birth number is 3 (2+1=3). Numbers 3, 6 and 9 are generally lucky for him. He won National awards 3 times. His name carries 12 characters (1+2=3).His Sun Sign is Taurus. It is related to number 6 as per numerology. Also,he is 42 years now (4+2=6). The year 2013 represents 6 (2+0+1+3=6). Generally,he is passing through a lucky phase.
Occult number of the first name “Aditya” is 12. Occult number of “Dhoom 3” is 30 (3+0=3). Occult number of full name “Aditya Chopra” is 38 (3+8=11,1+1=2). So, Dhoom 3 release date is quite significant.
The release date is December 20. Date 20 adds up to 2 (2+0=2). Fate number of that day is 2. Fate number is arrived at by adding the digits of the date, month and year (2+0+1+2+2+0+1+3=11,1+1=2).
That is, the film is released on a date influenced by the occult number. Also, the film is released when Aditya Chopra is passing through the lucky age 42. So,it is almost quite clear that the film will be highly successful.
Thus according to numerology, Krrish 3 would be successful but Dhoom 3 would be the clear winner.
Dhoom vs Krrish : What the fans feel
When talked to a few fans, on which film Dhoom or Krrish would win the race, everyone voted for Dhoom. “Not that the previous Krrish films were not upto the mark but given a choice I would go for Dhoom because I just love action and the fact that Aamir Khan is in the film makes it all the more interesting,” says Ashim Sunam.
Suchi Jain, a huge fan of Aamir Khan said, “I would specially watch Dhoom 3 for Aamir this time. Although Koi Mil Gaya was a nice film, Krrish was not good and given a choice I would always go for Dhoom 3 this year.” Alekhya Bolla, who loved robbery and heist films says, “I absolutely love the tension and the thrill that comes with a planned robbery film and would not for my life give a miss to Dhoom 3.”
Shiv Prakash, who always loves quality films over blockbuster hits said, “I detest Indian superhero films as the execution of the films are not good and it doesn't affect me at any level. Dhoom 3 is my choice but if I have more choices I would probably even miss Dhoom 3 for say a film like Lunchbox.”
One out of all the fans that I talked to, only Divya Juyal said, “I would go for Krrish, as I feel Aamir Khan is not villain material and I love superhero films. So Krrish 3 is my film for this year.”
In the year 2006, when Dhoom 2 went on to become the highest grosser of the year, Hrithik Roshan was playing both the protagonist in Dhoom 2 and Krrish. Now that Yash Raj films have roped in one of the superstars (Aamir Khan) for the third film, the chances of Krrish 3 winning the box office race is next to zero this year.
Technology has advanced and the Krrish team might have pulled out many tricks out of their box as it looks from their trailer but Dhoom 3 has technology, action and a superb starcast. To beat all these is a far fetched dream. Since Krrish 3 is releasing this November before Dhoom 3, it is bound to do a good business but Dhoom 3 is the one who would be able to give a strong competition to the records made by the recent Shahrukh Khan starrer 'Chennai Express.'
