Who is the next heir?
Indian politics is on shaky grounds in the different states which face serious shortage of next generation of leaders who can succeed as well as their veterans.
WHAT IS common between the “K” series soaps of Balaji telefilms and Indian politicians? Both of them have strong family drama involving numerous feuds and disputes wherein each character fights for supremacy and Indian politics too involves such family dramas directly or indirectly. As the second generation politicians have turned aged enough to retire, the factor that would decide Indian politics in the coming years would be “Who will succeed these veterans?”

The issue is quite simple in the Indian national congress as Rahul Gandhi is the lone and undisputed heir of Nehru-Gandhi clan. Not very far away from the 10 Janpath is the giant elephant led by Mayawati. Mayawati is a woman alone. She has off late avoided any second rung leader of her party to rise up to the number two position in the party. Although Singh Yadav has his family deep into his party, internal differences has existed right from the time of Amar Singh which arouse due to the feudalistic attitude of Mulayam Singh and his family. Varun Gandhi is hardly any “Hope of future” type of person!

This leaves much ground for congress in Uttar Pradesh. Moving to south, the politics of Tamil Nadu is as spicy as the Madras (oops Chennai) sambar wherein the sons of Karunanidhi, Stalin and Azagiri would fight for the position of supreme commander of DMK. If everything goes well, there might be a split in the DMK which would undoubtedly give an edge to Jayalalitha.

Now the land of Maharastra manoo’s! Its much celebrated warrior Bal Thackrey has been facing serious reverse currents due to MNS which was floated by his own commander Raj Thackrey. Given both Shiv Sena and MNS fight for the same vote bank, split in votes would only makes the opposition stronger.

The West Bengal politics hardly has anything interesting to offer thanks to late Jyoti Basu who had no heirs matching his caliber and neither does Mamata didi.

This leaves me with the question: where will Indian politics stand after a decade? Perhaps the ballots will have more options while the voters will have only one option: Stability or fragility!
