Whom should we blame for 498A misuse?
This is dedicated to the parents of the false 498A accused man who succumbed to terrorism and committed suicide. His parents are still facing terrorism and waiting for that light at the end of the never ending tunnel.
AS A human being, we all want a worth for our life… We grow up studying, working and loving our family and we seek educational degrees, performance appraisals, care from our people in return.

Now, in India, while on the one side we talk about economic policies, educating every child, achieving 100 per cent literacy, have we wondered where we are losing all of these efforts? What makes us struggle for existence? ….. Is it our neighboring country which promotes terrorism against us? …. While we are free to attribute our problems to anybody we want, we should actually understand the root of our problems to be able to solve them. India is rich in one of the most important forms of resources i.e. human resource, still we are not able to manage the competition, why is it so?

Let me take an example to convey the idea …. terrorism in India is not restricted to that caused by external forces. First let’s have a look at internal terrorism. It is believed that thousands (rather lakhs) of Indians are trapped in false 498 A (dowry cases) presently. Now, we should evaluate the amount of human resource wasted like this. Most of the men trapped in these cases (which are proven false after many years of trial) are well educated, highly skilled and with good income. When trapped in these cases, they face physical and mental harassment. They lose their demanding jobs to be able to manage their case trials, they are paying money as maintenance to their wives and have to manage their old parents and stressed siblings who are many times unnecessarily dragged and falsely accused in these cases just to pressurise the man.

Well, when Indians talks about braindrain, why do we not ask our own selves: “What does this country have in store for these intelligent guys, just false 498A and extortion?”

Likewise, every year we lose a significant percentage of our educated workforce to these cases. Also, many times, educated women who file false cases against their in-laws, choose not to work as they are sure to at least gain monetarily as maintenance from the case even if later on the case is proven false. So, on an average for one false complaint from a woman, we lose 1 X 5 (man and his relatives) of educated and capable workforce for years. What do we gain in return? ….. hundreds of broken families and children raised by single mothers?

This way India loses lakhs of people who are our capable and very skilled to these false cases. If a common man feels that by ruining their lives, no one loses anything, then we must also not forget the fact that this is the attitude which nourishes terrorism and which causes the deep rooting of evils in our country.

Lakhs of such people are facing extortion everyday and are living on the edge and some of them even commit suicide. Do we need any more outside terrorism then? Is this not enough to ruin a country which has humans as the biggest resource and this resource is being exploited and harassed till it gives up all hope for life?

Let us think about this and eradicate internal terrorism, the “legal terror”, first and then we will have unity and strength to fight against external forces. Let us remove the evils from within and then talk about changing the world. Let us learn to live and let live!

We, 498A misuse victims, are not biased against caste or religion, as we are being tortured and terrorised by people from our own community, our own religion, our own caste, and our own countrymen; who should we blame then?
