The prayers on lips cannot hide the tension in minds and sense of insecurity on the ground. The government of the day feels insecure about protecting and preserving their majority on the floor of the House, that is the legislative assembly. The Muslim crowd coming out ofthe mosque after the collective prayers are over, feel insecure because their votes were successful in helping their preferred political party form the govt but the govt failed to deliver the goods as oper their expectations.
So, the Muslim commoners feel cheated, may be wrongly so, and they look for every opportunity to teach the government of the day a lesson by creating a gigantic law and order problem to destabiise the government and cause another election. Every general election means a lot of money changing hands illegally. Every collective bargaining with the power hungry party means more promises for betterment of life of the Muslim community.
Thus, causing civil unrest to cause a fresh eection goes in favour of the Muslim community. Many a time diehard communal political parties like the Muslim League form a coalition government with the Congress party that announces its make-believe secular credentials from the roof tops and yet promotes the communal agenda of the Muslim League - the party that was in the forefront in creating the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Thus, the sense of insecurity among the members of the political party in power and the minority Muslim community eventually is helpful to both. The Muslim community gets a clout to manage the decisions of the government to their advantage.
MOVE TO MUMBAI
Maharashtra has all along been a welll-administered state until the coalition politics came to the forefront and took its pound of flesh. The Police Commissioner is more interested in becoming DGP of the State than in minor entangllements of law and order. Let everything pass peacefully that is his motto. According permission to a Muslim crowd of protesters to hold a rally in the Azad Maidan and denounce everyone from meek Manmohan to sick Sonia covering Myanmar to Assam was fraught with danger. Non-deployment of adequate police force to control emotionally surcharged crowd was like committing Harakiri. The Mumbai Police just did that. It lost both prestige and police uniform, not mentioning the unrecovered firearms that crowds had snatched.
What business does the Mumbai Muslim has to protest against killing of Myanmar Muslims? So deny permission. There is so much to protest against issues relating to al citizens of alll faiths but the movers of masses are not interested in. The police must ensure that it is deployed in sufficient numbers to control the masses that go berserk more often than not.
