Why do some get trapped on the way of life?
The sheer size of the ones on the move, and negligibly small size that gets trapped, the ones who are on the other side of the grave or misfortune take them for granted. Why do we ignore that we are also on the move and there are pitfalls on the way.

The sheer size of the ones on the move, and the negligibly small size of the number that gets trapped, we the ones who are on the other side of the grave or misfortune take them for granted, and when we find a speeding ambulance whisk past us, we simply look at them as if we are seeing some spectacle. How many of us pray to God, Oh God be with that ailing soul!! Not many of us do it. For many of us, newspaper, news channel story on someone is just a story.

The newspapers bring gory pictures and eerie stories of people who get killed, murdered and maimed. We look at these pictures with a calculated distance and assume that they are aliens and we have nothing to do with their ill fate. This distanced attitude gets more and more distant depending on how far or distant is the place that brings the story from. Farther it is, more distant is our attitude towards such news items.

When we drive out, we find accidents of some gravity on the way. We look at them, sometimes slow down, and poke up our head to enquire of what happened, when, how and who all got involved in it. And we move forward ignoring the fact that we are also on the move and there are pitfalls on the way.

Why can’t we stop and stay for awhile to take stock and feel for ourselves what an accident looks like and what it makes one into and the like. Can’t we spare a few words of prayer at least for those ones who so get trapped? They have parents, some have children, some have wives and husbands and such near and dear ones, including neighbours. So long as they are as distant as our neighbour next door, we are alright!!

When we walk past a medical college gate, when we sit by an ailing patient at a hospital, when we find the rest of the world suffering, when we eat the food enough for four stomachs in a single go, we all maintain the same distance or detachment. It is not my ‘someone’ who is crossing the medical college gate to buy this or that, it is not my relative who is ailing, it is an ‘I am-my-world-and-the-rest-is-alien

Beggars knock at our doors, streets children beg for our mercy, migrants make us unsettled, why do we need to say more, the ones who happen to stay below our status banner give us discomfort. Are these people not the ones who unfortunately got trapped on their way to something else in their life?

Are they not part of those millions and millions who set out every day for this or that? Those ones we meet at the accident site, the ones at the medical college, the ones at our door step, the ones on our way home are part of those millions who set out with the great expectations that they would return home happily. They are very much part of the same.

However, the better off puts on a guise of ignorance shrouded in heinous distance. Where have we inherited this indifference from? Do we ever have the guts to distance ourselves from the very thought that we could get trapped or deprived of our interests on the way? Why not all return home safely when most of them do? Why some?

Our eyes feast on war footages, clippings on calamities, both natural and man-made, terrorist outrages, communal fundamental lynching and head hunting. There are many such “others’ ” things that give us the feeling that we are immune to all these. If we are to be returning safe, or not to get trapped in any way anywhere in our life, we all need to think and live the fact that the ones that fall on the way are not inferior to us in anyway, and the ones who never get trapped hardly stand a better chance in life when it comes to what we call ‘the inevitableness of being trapped in life’ from day one to the D day. Still it worries me, why do some get trapped twice and many times more? Does it worry you??? If it does, we both are pleasantly trapped in this very thought.
